Colour all-sky camera with a new frame every minute; only meaningful after dark. Credit: Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory, University of Oulu.
Northern lights cameras in Finland on one page, each with the aurora score where it stands.
Finnish Lapland has some of the most reliable aurora skies in Europe: the Finnish Meteorological Institute counts auroras on about three of every four clear nights in the far north around Kilpisjärvi, and on about half of them around Rovaniemi and Sodankylä.
The cameras below include Fintraffic road weather cameras across Lapland (open data, CC BY 4.0), the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory all-sky camera and live streams from Levi, Kilpisjärvi, Inari and Rovaniemi. Many road cameras switch to black-and-white infrared at night, so a green glow can look grey.
51 cameras in our catalogue: 18 live streams, 21 open-licence stills and 12 on operators' sites.
