About this camera

Kevo BACC all-sky camera is a webcam shown on the operator's own site in Kevo, Utsjoki, Finland, run by UNIS Kjell Henriksen Observatory / Finnish Meteorological Institute. It is an all-sky camera: a fisheye lens looks straight up, so the whole sky is in the frame and the horizon runs round the edge.

Over many years, aurora shows on about 75% of clear, dark nights at this camera's magnetic latitude (67°). That is a long-term average, not a forecast: tonight's chance is next to the camera.

A small fell village on the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park, famous for glass igloos. About 260 km north of Rovaniemi, with clearly better aurora odds.

Near Saariselkä the aurora season runs from September to March, when the nights are dark enough. Polar night: About a month of kaamos (polar night) around the winter solstice: roughly early December to early January without sunrise.
