Muonio BACC all-sky camera is a webcam shown on the operator's own site in Muonio, Finnish Lapland, Finland, run by UNIS Kjell Henriksen Observatory / Finnish Meteorological Institute. It is an all-sky camera: a fisheye lens looks straight up, so the whole sky is in the frame and the horizon runs round the edge.
Over many years, aurora shows on about 55% of clear, dark nights at this camera's magnetic latitude (65°). That is a long-term average, not a forecast: tonight's chance is next to the camera.
Finland's biggest ski resort, a comfortable base with restaurants, activities and a nearby airport at Kittilä. Better aurora odds than Rovaniemi, but you need to get away from the slope lights.
Near Levi the aurora season runs from September to March, when the nights are dark enough. Polar night: A short kaamos of two to three weeks around the winter solstice, when the sun stays below the horizon in mid to late December.
