ALOMAR BACC all-sky camera – Andøya is a webcam shown on the operator's own site in Andøya, Vesterålen, Norway, run by UNIS Kjell Henriksen Observatory / Andøya Space. It is an all-sky camera: a fisheye lens looks straight up, so the whole sky is in the frame and the horizon runs round the edge.
Over many years, aurora shows on about 75% of clear, dark nights at this camera's magnetic latitude (67°). That is a long-term average, not a forecast: tonight's chance is next to the camera.
Norway's second-largest island: Lofoten-style drama with far fewer people. Superb dark skies, but access and weather are challenging.
Near Senja the aurora season runs from September to March, when the nights are dark enough. Polar night: Similar latitude to Tromsø: roughly late November to mid-January. Villages between mountains see the sun return later.
